Rampart Collective on the move

Please note: The rampART collective is not based in the Lift’n Hoist anymore. We are currently homeless. We will be moving to a new space very soon.

The lovely folks at 195 Mare Street (Hackney, E8) are lending us a room for our regular Monday meeting on 8th February. 7pm as usual.

Greek cafe night: one year later

Thursday, 14 January 7PM

What’s happening in Greece? One year ago, the shooting of teenage Alexis
by the police fired a massive scale reaction from the anti-authoritarian
youth.
The riots kicked off (and still go on) in a country facing a big economic
crisis, but what impresses us most is the determination and resistance of
this movement. Their aim is a complete change in state and society: so
should we dare to speak the word? A revolution.

Then, another important item for a discussion: a couple of months ago
Alfredo Bonanno, one of the most controversial and known figures of
insurrectionary anarchism, was arrested in Greece along with Christos
Stratigopoulos shortly after a bank robbery had taken place. He’s now held
in prison under conditions that are unbearable for anyone, and especially
a 72 year-old man with health problems.

Join us if you’re interested in knowing more about the actual situation in
Greece, in learning more about struggles against the appalling conditions
in Greek jails and news concerning the particularly severe conditions of
detention of Alfredo and Christos.

The Conspiracy Cafe. Friday 18 December

Friday 18 December 2009

Conspiracy theories have become a very popular – and influencial -  part of political culture in the last 100 years. In our “conspiracy cafe” night we want to discuss the reasons and forms conspiracy theories and the quest to “find the truth behind things” take sometimes.

We will start the evening with an introduction into the history of conspiracy theories since the late 19th century and afterwards discuss some recently popular examples.

The Beautiful South + rampART Revisited

1 Queen’s Row, Walworth, SE17

/// FRIDAY, 20th NOVEMBER, 7.30pm ///

Not a defunct 1980s soft core rock band but an info night celebrating South London activism and social centres past and present + a bit of rampART reminiscence. We’re not just getting teary eyed and nostalgic (well, not much). This is an event to assess what we’ve achieved, what could’ve been done better and the role of social centres in contemporary activism. An evening of films, slideshows, talks and discussion + live music from 52 Commercial Road and guests.
